Our host facility is Virginia Commonwealth University “VCU” located in the heart of the historic state capital.

The university has many modern amenities for our campers comfort and learning experience. As with our summer camps before, this is a week long camp held July 19th through July 25th with learning and fun for ages 7-18. All levels of female dancers are welcome to join us for this great experience. Registration forms are now available at each of the Concepts in Motivation dance studios or on-line at www.cmdance.com.

Dance Camp Staff

Brittany Rose will again serve as this year’s Camp Director and has been a part of CM Premiere Dance Camp since its inception. Her dance training includes performing at the Kennedy Center's Opera House, with the American Ballet Theatre. Her other training has included performing with the Universal Ballet of Korea, studying at the Miami City Ballet under the direction of Edward Villela and his wife, Linda, and advanced class study at the Maryland Youth Ballet. Currently, she attends Winthrop University and is pursing a dance education degree.

Many talented teachers have graced CM Premier Dance Camp. This year the tradition continues of bringing exciting and varied instructors to challenge the campers. The teachers have degrees in dance and have worked professionally as choreographers for some of the top dance companies in the country and abroad. Most of the staff have studied with the top talent today and bring that expertise to the campers. The campers should expect to work hard, learn a lot, and complete their week as improved dancers who can take that knowledge and apply it to their classes and dance throughout the year.

Dance Facilities

VCU has seven dance studios with sprung floors with either Marley or wood surfaces, floor to ceiling windows, student and faculty bathrooms and locker rooms.

Dance Instruction

A variety of training is offered each year to the campers. Some of the instruction is:
• Daily Technique Classes in several of the following – ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, or musical theater
• Specialty Classes – choreography, auditioning, turns & leaps, improvisation, stretch & conditioning
• Movie/Video Session – Campers watch a series of dance related videos to enhance their experience
• Basic dance terminology and technique
• Special counselor dance instruction and choreography
• Rehearsals for group number, counselor dances, and class ensembles all presented in the closing performance
• End of camp performance for family and guests

Closing Performance

The closing performance is at the end of camp after the camper’s belongings have been picked up. Dancers will showcase their talents and all that they have learned in this farewell show.

Accommodations

A short 1-1/2 hour drive from DC right off of Interstate 95 will bring you to the historic city of Richmond. The dorms are modern air-conditioned rooms, furnished with two twin-sized beds, clothing drawers, and closets. There are common rooms where campers can meet and socialize.

Miss Brittany says “camp is an opportunity for overall growth for young girls. Not only do they grow as dancers and become better rounded technically, they also grow physically and mature more through this experience. They are able to share times with friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.”

Dining Facilities

VCU’s contemporary dining services makes sure quality, well-balanced meals are presented. There are several entrees offered during lunch and dinner with hot side dishes, a salad-fruit-soup bar, as well as dessert. A wide selection of foods at breakfast in the morning ensures energy for the campers.

Supervision/Security

There will be continuous CM adult supervision the entire week. Highly responsive s ecurity guards are on duty 24 hours per day. Interval room checks will be made by the counselors, as campers must be in their rooms by 10:00 pm.

A Day at Kings Dominion Included in Price!

Other organized activities are planned throughout the campers’ week at VCU. While at King’s Dominion the campers can enjoy the fabulous rides or see the shows. The dancers will also have other events scheduled for them in the evenings too. These activities may include a night of interactive game contests, a movie night where appropriately selected movies will be played, talent show night with the campers performing for the rest of their camping friends, and a pizza party.
