The annual CM Premier Summer Dance Camp will be held July 27th through August 2nd 2008 at Frostburg State University. This is a week long summer camp with learning and fun from ages 8-17. All levels of dancers are welcome to join us for this great experience. The camp is limited to the first 100 campers that register. Registration forms are now available at each of the CM Dance studios.

          A beautiful scenic drive of approximately two hours will lead you through the mountains of western Maryland, well renowned for their picturesque quality. Frostburg State University is located right off Interstate 68 nestled in the cool summer surroundings of these western Maryland mountains.

Dance Facilities

          The Frostburg State University facilities have rehearsal spaces with the latest in wood floor systems and ceiling to floor mounted mirrors for state of the art equipment, as well as professional standard make-up rooms and a large variety of classrooms.

          The Physical Education Building is the most modern Ballet studio of its kind. It contains the latest in flooring systems and has an abundance of space for ballet bars and other dance equipment.

Accommodations

          The accommodations at Westminster Hall are the newest on campus. Each room is furnished with two twin-sized beds, microfridges, workstations with clothing drawers and closets. The facility is air-conditioned.

Campus/Conditions

          The cool summer evenings and warm hospitality offer opportunities for planned outdoor activities, cookouts, recreational events and tranquil relaxation. In addition to the outdoors we have game rooms with wide screen televisions, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts and more. 

Dining Facilities

          The Chesapeake Dining Hall is serviced by the Marriott Corporation thus insuring quality, well-balanced meals. There are four entrees offered during lunch and dinner with three to five hot side dishes, and a salad, fruit, and soup bar. 

          In addition to the main dining hall is a special grill area where the traditional hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and french fries are served. Every meal is all you care to eat.

Supervision/Security

          There will be adult supervision 24 hours each day. Counselor facilities are together with those of the campers. 24 hour uniformed security by the on-campus police of Frostburg State University is also provided. The on-campus police perform hourly security checks at each residence hall beginning at dusk and continuing through the morning hours. Interval room checks will be made by the counselors, as campers must be in their rooms by 10:00 pm.

Organized Activities

          There will be organized activities throughout the time at Frostburg State University. These activities will include a night of inter-active game contests, a movie night where appropriately selected movies will be played in the privately rented out game room facility in the Lane Center, a bar-b-que picnic with planned activities hosted by the outdoor pavilion area, talent show night with the campers performing for the rest of their camping friends and a dance party in the Greenhouse Cafeteria Hall with pizza and sodas being served and guest hosted by a DJ. Awards will be handed out Friday night during the dance party in the Greenhouse Cafeteria Hall.

Dance Instruction

  • Three 1 1/2 hour technique classes (4 1/2 hours daily)

  • Specialty Classes - Choreography, auditioning, stage make-up, costuming, stage presence and much more

  • Movie/Video Session - Campers watch a series of dance related videos to enhance their dance experience

  • Basic dance terminology

  • End of Camp performance for family and guests

  • Special counselor dance instruction/choreography

Closing Performance

          The closing performance is at the end of camp -- more details to follow. 

What to Bring

  • One piece leotard or unitard (no halter or 2-piece leotards)

  • Footed tights in either pink, black or tan color

  • Cover ups to be worn outside the classroom and warm-up

  • Shoes - Ballet, Tap and Jazz shoes

  • Hair must be securely pulled back from face during classes

  • Casual wear and tennis shoes

  • White shorts and white tennis shoes for camp picture

  • Costume and two copies of music if in talent show

  • Towels and washcloths

  • Single bed sheets and blanket

  • Pillows and pillowcases

  • Alarm clock and fan are recommended by not mandatory

  • Calling card/collect call number to use when calling home (Counselor will be available to assist in dialing)

  • A small amount of spending money for games/videos etc.

  • We suggest that no valuables be brought to camp. We will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles

Check in and Check out

          General check in is Sunday. Hours of check in will be from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. 

          Check out time is generally Saturday between 8:00am and 9:00am. The campers will need to report to the Performing Arts Center by 9:30am to prepare for the closing performance. The performance will begin at 10:00am in the Pealer Recital Hall.

Registration Information

          Registration forms are now available at each of the CM Dance Studios. A mail-in down payment will be due for $150 at the time of application. You will then receive a confirmation with a medical release form. Camp fees include: air-conditioned accommodations, all meals, instruction of dance and specialty classes, CM Camp T-shirt, CM Camp picture, private pool party, private dance night with food and drinks, bar-b-que cookout and much more.
